Bad news, the Steam Deck the release date shifted to February 2022 |
With the Steam Deck, Valve has come to offer a much more powerful alternative to the Nintendo Switch. However, this new product is not about to hit first-time buyers. Indeed, the shortage of components has struck once again. Originally scheduled for December 2021, the console has just seen its release date shift to February 2022.
The Stream Deck is behind schedule
While the first models were due to arrive for Christmas, players who have pre-ordered the Steam Deck will finally have to be patient and wait until 2022. Steam has indeed announced in a blog post that “the launch of Steam Deck is delayed for two months “.
The company later explains that it has done its best to avoid “supply chain problems, but due to a shortage of materials, components do not arrive at our manufacturing plants on time. “We will be able to meet the initial launch dates.”
The steam then specifies that it has updated its manufacturing time estimates. As a result, we learn that the first deliveries should be honored for February 2022, but also that this period will become “the new start date of the reservation queue – all reservation holders keep their place in a row, but the dates will be shifted accordingly “.
This news is not very spectacular, however. Indeed, the shortage of components is now affecting many players in the tech world. At Apple, production forecasts for the iPhone 13 have been lowered by 10 million by the end of the year. The apple-based firm is even forced to use components from iPads and older iPhones to produce more. On the Nintendo side, the production level would have been reduced by 20% for the current fiscal year because of this shortage.
