The Better Call Saul season 6 premiere managed to give us a lot of fantastic things. There was, however, one surprise. It’s about what wasn’t in the episode as much as it is about what was.
One of the things we’ve grown accustomed to with this show over the years is the ability to see the flash-forwards with Gene Takovic almost immediately. We know he’s doing his best to maintain what little semblance of a life he has. Is he going to remain in hiding indefinitely? He was recently recognized in Omaha, and it’s tempting to interpret this as proof that he’s made it. Of course, we hope that everything works out for him.
We imagine that one of the goals going into the premiere was to keep people guessing, and we have a feeling that this accomplishes that. We believe the writers have a plan for the flash-forwards, but with this being the final season, they don’t want to rush into it.
The closest thing we got to a flashback was Jimmy/mansion Saul’s being cleared out at the start of the season, and many of his belongings were confiscated. The tequila stopper that Kim Wexler had at one point in season 3 was perhaps the most important of all. Just this one action today makes us wonder what will happen to her.
