MO IS BASED ON A REAL STORY?
Yes, the Netflix show Mo is based on the life of its co-creator Mohammed “Mo” Amer, but only to a certain extent. Even though the show is based on real events, the story of “Mo” goes in its own direction and can be seen as a made-up account of Amer’s life.
Like his character Mo, Amer was born in Kuwait and has Palestinian roots, just like Mo. When she was 9 years old, she and her family had to leave Kuwait and flee to the United States. They ended up in Houston, Texas.
Amer, who speaks Spanish well, was often mistaken for a Latino when he was growing up. This is also shown in the Netflix show.
He had been thinking about writing a story about a young Palestinian living in Texas for a very long time. Whether or not it’s interesting to get ideas from one’s own life.

Amer used the fact that it took him about twenty years to become an American citizen as another important detail in the Netflix show.
