Max Goodwin’s character in New Amsterdam season 5 episode 4 decided that we all needed yet another emotional punch in the gut.
We were ready for the possibility that Ryan Eggold’s character might pass away from the beginning of the series.
He had cancer from the beginning, and he had to manage the hospital while attempting to maintain his own life.
Although he was able to accomplish both, there was always a chance that it would return. This is a terrible, unavoidable result that could arise from this illness.
Max received the results of his MRI about 45 minutes into the episode, and it was then that he discovered he would require a biopsy.
Uncertainty about his future forced him to confront his fear of abandoning Luna in the world. Helen was also gone while Georgia had passed away.

He has many close friends, but none stood out as the one who would look after her in the event of something happening. This might turn into his new battle.
Max did receive a call in the waning moments that sounded like good news. After all, he declared to Dr. Wilder that he was “healed” following her carpal tunnel surgery. Can we trust him?
Given that we never actually heard the doctor tell him he had nothing to worry about, that is the important question we have to ask. Max wouldn’t intentionally lie, but he would do so if doing so would relieve someone else’s anxiety, such as Wilder, who had just undergone a challenging procedure.
We’re going to believe Max for the time being, in part because we don’t want to see him pass away at the end of the show. However, we can’t claim to be completely at ease with what we heard from him at the end of the episode as we sit here and write this.
