The New Amsterdam television series has ended after five intense seasons. The medical drama still had a few cliffhangers of a more personal nature to resolve before the two-part series finale on January 17.
In the penultimate episode, Max not only preferred Wilder to Helen, but Iggy later asked Martin on a date after they divorced. Additionally, viewers were curious to learn whether Reynolds and Gabrielle would experience true love.
Showrunner David Schulner declared that the Season 5 finale would only cover one medical story due to the extensive amount of material to be covered, referring to it as an “origin story” for everyone. Will there then be a sequel, though?

WHAT DATE WILL SEASON 6 OF NEW AMSTERDAM BE RELEASED?
There won’t be a Season 6 of New Amsterdam on NBC, which is a shame. The medical drama’s fifth season, which premiered on January 17, 2023, was declared by the channel to be it’s last. New Amsterdam won’t have a sixth season.
To save the medical drama, there is no need to start online petitions or to advocate for another streaming service like Netflix.
The final season was announced in March 2022, well before the start of Season 5 in September 2022, giving the show plenty of time to prepare for a proper ending.
Ryan Eggold, who plays Max in the show, posted a heartfelt tribute to the series and a picture of himself grinning on the set on Instagram ahead of the airing of the series finale.
While the lack of additional stories in New Amsterdam Season 6 will disappoint fans, this is the ideal time to begin re-binge-watching the entire series.
Though it can be challenging for dreamers to foresee the future, there doesn’t appear to be much chance that the series will ever be revived. However, in the upcoming years, we can hope for unique reunion episodes!
In the case of special episodes, we can only hope for a release date in 2026 and not earlier to prevent fans from becoming overly sentimental.
