EXPLAIN THE ENDING OF EPISODE 5 OF SEASON 5 OF THE HANDMAID’S TALE ON OCS! SPOILERS!
OCS now has The Handmaid’s Tale available! Continue reading for an explanation of the ending of Episode 5 of Season 5!
Can’t this show just let us have it without stealing it and throwing it in the back of a black armored truck in the middle of the night? That’s not entirely fair. Everything you need to know about Episode 6 is right here.
We relished the delicious pleasure of watching Serena writhe under the oppression of a Gilead pregnancy. In fact, “Fairytale” was quite good for an episode that didn’t feature Janine.
“Fairytale,” like many previous episodes, bridges June and Serena’s parallel universes, in this case how real life punches a fantasy for both of them.
June’s fairy tale is a brief, unexpected reprieve from her life-and-death to-do list when she and Luke are temporarily trapped in the liminal space between Gilead and Canada, losing every ounce in exchange.
Because this is The Handmaid’s Tale, we must conclude on a cliffhanger. If you have any questions about the ending, here is an explanation of the ending of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 episode 5!

EXPLAINED ENDING OF THE HANDMAID’S TALE SEASON 5 EPISODE 5
As night falls, Jayden drives the couple to their first meeting location, but he steps on a mine. The mine explodes in seconds, severely injuring Jayden.
Other Guardians stationed nearby begin to arrive to check on Jayden, but June and Luke attempt to flee. They are eventually captured and separated by the Guardians.
Their separation at the end of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Episode 5 indicates that they will not remain together.
Luke could be imprisoned, while June is brought before the commanders. Although Gilead’s commanders attempted to limit June’s influence and authority, they did not attempt to eliminate her.
Killing her at a time when Gilead is vulnerable and looking for assistance from other countries may send the wrong message to the international community.
Serena’s tenacity and growing power have enraged Gilead’s commanders, who despise a woman gaining any kind of authority or power in society.
As a result, commanders may prefer Serena to remain behind the scenes, unable to exert direct influence.
They can also blame Serena for causing several problems, particularly with June, which harms Gilead’s reputation and authority.
Serena will almost certainly be placed under house arrest, with little or no freedom to make her own decisions, based on these factors.
We may see her attempting to escape the house and Ryan’s control in future episodes of the fifth season.
