Can you expect The Thing About Pam season 2 in any shape or form after tonight’s finale? Is this the last night?
We believe that to find this out for a lot of programs out there, you’ll need to do some sort of deep dive. However, this is not the case in this instance. We can state categorically that there will be no season 2 because there was never a plan for one. This show, based on a true story, was intended to be a limited series at NBC from the start and a departure from their usual fare.
Given that Pam Hupp is still alive, you could argue that there is a possibility for additional stories on the road. She is, however, incarcerated, and we’re not sure how you’d have a basis or justification to bring it back.
From a business standpoint, we already know that there is no compelling reason to do so. This sitcom had a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and barely 2.6 million live viewers per week on average. We applaud NBC for taking a chance on this, but this isn’t the type of show that does well on broadcast television. The majority of these, whether The Dropout, WeCrashed, or Dopesick, end up on streaming sites for a reason. They’re all used to the limited-series concept and are more comfortable with fans finding and/or appreciating some of their episodes over time. They simply have a vastly different programming strategy.
We hope that NBC takes more chances like this in the future, especially if they can bring in more major personalities like Renee Zellweger. She gave The Thing About Pam an instant degree of legitimacy that it would not have had otherwise.
