Nathan makes friends with other digital undead and even falls in love with Nora, a still-living customer service “angel.” The promise of a peaceful resting place, however, quickly turns into a nightmare conspiracy that could leave characters dead or, worse, obliterated. The Ludds are back in full force in Season 2, and Ingrid takes her obsession with Nathan to new heights, even as our hero desperately tries to work things out with Nora. The conclusion of Season 2 of Upload left many questions unanswered; we answer them all!
UPLOAD SEASON 2 FINAL EXPLANATION!
Upload’s Season 2 finale is an avalanche of dramatic twists. Ingrid reveals that she is regenerating her body in the hopes that the Uploads will succeed one day. She also reveals that she has been posing as an Upload the entire time, which causes Nathan to break up with her.
Ingrid was last seen pulling a hair from Nathan’s old hairbrush, clearly intending to use his DNA. She could use that hair to create a clone of Nathan or have a child with him, allowing her to touch and manipulate his money.
He then rushes in to try to thwart the evil new Freeyond service. In an attempt to stop Freeyond, Nora enlists the Ludds’ assistance, forcing Nathan to download himself into the body Ingrid grew for him. Nathan’s conscious experience successfully transfers into his body after a brief confrontation.
On the train back to New York, Nora and Nathan finally get some alone time. However, as Upload Season 2 concludes, Nathan notices that his nostril is beginning to bleed. Season 2 thus concludes on a depressing note, with the protagonist’s head on the verge of exploding.
So one of the most touching scenes, in which Nathan and Nora finally have a romantic moment together, could end with the latter waking up to the sound of the former’s head exploding. Nathan, or at least his existing body, will most likely die.
The most crucial information about Nathan’s fate, however, may be found in the offices of Horizen, where Tinsley has just discovered that our hero has vanished from Lakeview. Tinsley began secretly spawning a backup version of Nathan in Lakeview on the advice of an experienced employee. So, even if the current Nathan dies, another version of himself will be present in Lakeview, ready to take his place.
At the end of Upload Season 2, Nathan and Nora only know about Freeyond’s evil plan and are powerless to prevent the company from swaying the election by uploading a large portion of the less fortunate population.
The Season 2 finale of Upload leaves us with many unanswered questions, but it also provides some clever hints. Ingrid has conveniently opened a way to recreate Nathan’s physical body through this hair if Tinsley creates a backup version of Nathan’s consciousness.
